Neuromuscular Re-education (NMR) is a highly specialized soft tissue technique that effectively resolves neck, lower back and extremity pain. The foundation upon which NMR is built is the body’s response to inflammation.

Inflammation, whether caused by an injury or chronic postural stress, results in fibrous healing or scar tissue in the musculature and around the joint. This very pain sensitive tissue limits muscle and joint range of motion and predisposes the patient to re-injury. NMR effectively breaks loose painful scar tissue and prevents its formation immediately after injury.

NMR is a revolutionary technique that covers the entire musculature surrounding the painful area. With active contraction by the patient, the therapist is able to release adhesions or scar tissue formation.

Standard physical therapy reduces healing time; however, the fibrous adhesions remain. The involved area may be weaker, less flexible, have a tendency toward re-injury and cause apprehension during further use.

Dr. Payan uses digital equipment to assess his patient’s strength and range of motion. Once Dr. Payan determines which muscles are weak and inflexible, he is able to apply the appropriate NMR techniques to provide immediate relief and increased mobility.
